It is part of the rituals that have grown up between these two that Aragorn can let go of the constraints of kingship that rub and fret at him when the men play out a scene. Boromir takes his responsibilities in this very seriously, but there is trust and deep affection at the root of all and it comes through in how he chooses to treat Aragorn. Often it is Aragorn who recognises that this release or rebalancing is what he wants/needs at any particular moment, but on this occasion Boromir has taken the initiative.
