Specific Story Guidelines
All stories must be a minimum of 1,200 words (see Drabble Exchange below for exception) and be new fiction written specifically for this exchange (not repurposed stories that have been previously posted). Multi-chapter fics are more than welcome, but the entire story must be complete by the deadline. A month after the stories have been posted at

Drabble/Flash Fiction Roulette
We know there are many gifted writers who feel more comfortable with shorter forms of prose fiction. And there will be many exchange participants who either have a little extra time and want to work on something else, or help get their juices flowing by starting with something small. This is for you.
You are more than welcome to participate in both the fic exchange and the drabble/flash fiction roulette.
If you would like to write a drabble (100 words exactly) or a piece of flash fiction (250 - 1,000 words) use the Drabble/Flash Fiction sign-up post. It's organized a little differently this year so check it out.
Exchange Timeline
Sign-ups end: Saturday, May 16
Assignments delivered/roulette wheel unveiled: Monday, May 18
Fiction due: Sunday, July 12
posted: Sunday, July 19
The first deadline for Drabbles and Flash Fiction is Sunday, June 21.
Because writers may select to write more than one piece, participants in the drabble/flash fiction roulette may turn in their fics at any time up until Sunday, July 12.
Stories received by June 21 will be posted on Wednesday, June 24. Any stories received after will be posted on Sunday, July 19.
How to Join
To participate, complete the sign-up information with the kind of genre(s) you'd like to receive and those that you're able to give. We're asking people to select genres (fluff, angst, h/c, bdsm, pwp, etc.) they both love and those they don't like to assist us in pairing writers and recipients. You can also give a few words for a prompt or a general mood of the piece, and if there are characters you'd rather not make an appearance please make note of that as well.
Participants must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Back-up writers: we need you too. If you'd like to volunteer to pinch hit should the occasion arise, please fill in the appropriate sign-up form and submit in a screened comment here.
Commitment and Participant Expectations
Fic exchanges are a lot of fun but they do require a commitment from all participants. We couldn't give a better description of what's expected of you than

General Steps for Participation (but please read the fic exchange guide to fully understand what you are committing to:
- Compare the exchange time frame with your schedule to make sure you have no forseeable conflicts.
- If you decide to participate, friend this community so you can keep on top of all announcements as they are made, then complete and submit the sign-up form (fiction sign-up form; drabble/flash fiction sign-up form).
- Review your assignment as soon as you receive it to make sure it's something you will be able to complete. (If not, tell the moderators immediately.)
- Have your completed story read by a beta before submitting it. Remember, this is a gift for someone so should be as well honed as possible.
- As soon as possible after the stories have been posted, read your gift and leave a comment thanking the author.
Assignments
We will do our best to make assignments you will enjoy writing. But if you receive yours and don't think you can write it, please let us know immediately so we can re-assign. Don't swap with someone else participating; let us take care of it so we can keep everything organized.
If an emergency comes up and you're not able to complete your story by the deadline, please let us know ASAP so we can make other arrangements with you or assign a back-up writer.
Once completed, please have your story read by a beta before submitting it for posting.
