Prompt(s): #12: simple, a picture of two boats on the water at night and "shudder of brushed steel"
Disclaimer: Never happened,; I made it all up!
Viggo had liked Sean from the first time they'd met; had recognised sincerity and gentleness behind the rough exterior, like little scratches on solid metal.
Two nights in the pub with Viggo made Sean lose most of his shyness, but it took much more effort to make him lower his defences. Viggo, sly and persistent, didn't give in until Sean did and then they were truly friends.
Viggo knew they were bound to be more and maybe Sean knew it too, but wasn't ready. Sometimes, caught unawares, Sean's body reacted to Viggo's slightest touch, like a shudder of brushed steel.
The picture had probably been there for some time, simply pinned to the wall like most of the pictures in Viggo's living room; still Sean couldn’t stop looking at it, like there was some significant meaning to it that kept slipping through his fingers.
Two men in boat, small lights to enable them to work in the dark, everything in the picture; men, mountains, the boats, the lamps, reflected in still water that kept its secrets, its true depths.
His lips still burning from their unexpected kiss, he finally allowed himself to look at Viggo, hoping to find an answer.
Thinking about this happening for weeks now, already wondering 'when' instead of 'if', had made Sean anxious and weary. He had been so sure it would be good, but feared it would inevitably complicate things, maybe even ruin their friendship.
Now, with Viggo's naked skin against his, he couldn't even remember what he had been afraid of. He answered Viggo's smile, answered his kiss, welcomed the touch of his hands on his body, urging Viggo to take what he had to offer, opening up freely.
It all fell in place, bringing what had seemed complicated and scary back to simple.
