Prompt(s): #17: secret, "My soul has grown deep like the rivers" and a picture of Wharncliffe Lodge
Disclaimer:This is a work of fiction. It's make believe and completely untrue.
Everybody needs a bolt-hole, a private, secret place, where they can do exactly what they want to do, be still, be themselves; just be.
For Sean, his secret place is a house in the Yorkshire Dales made from three old stone farm cottages knocked into one. There's plenty of space for his piano and the big, deep leather couch, the widescreen HD TV he uses for watching football and for an eclectic and sometimes alarming collection of what he has learned to stop referring to as "junk" and is even learning to love, as he loves its begetter.
There's a sturdy old barn that he's turned into a studio for the crazy artist in his life. He has a corner there for his metalwork and the welding he likes to do "just to keep my hand in".
He always wanted to bring Viggo here, to the rolling green hills, where a man can breathe and walk for miles, disturbed only by the ubiquitous sheep, scramble over the craggy outcrops of rock and dabble in the crystal water everywhere in waterfalls, pools, tarns, becks and rivers.
He knew that this place would call out to Viggo's soul and now they stand together, thigh deep in the river, with Viggo patiently teaching him how to cast the fly, murmuring,
"Pull, flick, wait, push, flick, wait. Move your rod through a long arc. Timing is everything".
Sean smiles a secret smile, knowing that with Viggo, his soul has grown deep like the rivers.
