Prompt(s): #24: winsome, "floating mute into the sky's blue ear" and a picture of a church.

Having temporarily mislaid Sean on their sightseeing trip, Viggo finally tracked him down in the small, modern, sandstone church, where he was sitting alone, head bowed in contemplation.

Viggo's artistic instinct immediately registered the interesting shadows cast through the high window by the setting sun and his shutter finger itched, but his heart registered the shadows in Sean's soul as he slid into the pew next to his lover and placed a protective arm around his shoulder.

Knowing that Sean would speak when he was ready, he waited.

"I'm losing them, Viggo. One moment they're Daddy's little girls, all winsome and cute, looking up to you trustingly and hanging on your every word. Next minute, they're little madams and think they know it all. It happened with Lorna and Molly and now it's happening with little Evie. You still want to keep them safe, but they won't listen to a thing you say. I may as well be talking to the bloody sky."

"Floating mute into the sky's blue ear", quoted Viggo, hugging him close.

"Poetic bastard! I'm worried," but Sean had started to smile.

"Our kids need to fly up into that blue, Sean."

"Aye, I know. Kiss me."

See and that felt so very real to me. I could see them sitting there and say those things so very easily :)

It's a lovely fic mooms, I both appreciate Sean's feelings about his girls, as Viggo putting his artistic needs aside to help Sean. It does feel so very authentic.

You caught that so beautifully that you almost made me cry. But that is the essence of life. To see them grow and to teach them how to fly. And then you have to step back and watch them taking to the skies. Hoping, praying that no harm comes to them.

Yes, that's the problem for all parents, isn't it? Thank you for reading and commenting.

Yeah, I know what he means. It can be difficult to see them reach for more and more independence, though that's what kids do.

Yes, it's something all parents have to cope with. I see Sean as very protective of his girls. :D

You expressed Sean's heartache so beautifully. I'm so happy Viggo is there to soothe him. Just lovely.

This is such a lovely use of the prompts. I love when Sean is shown in the Dad role and you've done so beautifully. I'm not a parent and yet you've made me feel Sean's yearning and concern and love. This is just beautiful!

Beautifully captured, that moment when a parent realizes their child/children are going to fly away and perhaps even burn their wings. That the moment has arrived where you can no longer protect them from their own destiny.

The presence of a beloved to help and comfort - beautiful theme and plotting.
Thank you.

I've never been in that position but can appreciate the fear of letting go. Beautifully written - thank you!
