Title: Proceeding with Caution
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shegollum

Prompt(s): #15: a picture of 'slow' painted on the street
Disclaimer: Completely and totally untrue and written only for fun and certainly not for profit or other personal gain.

I saw your apprehension but no denial. I waited, not moving forward but never backing away, ever hopeful and full of want. Your smiles were questions paired with challenges; maybe you never knew that. I came to you - slowly, cautiously, fearing your fear. The graze of my shoulder against yours, the slide of my fingers across your wrist, lingering to feel the rapid beat of your pulse. I drew away when others approached, careful only for you, but you pulled me back, laughing. I came toward you slowly but when I did, you met me with an unguarded heart.

careful only for you

i read it twice, with a different man in first person each time, and it works beautiful both ways.

There is hope that demands caution, lest something fragile and precious be shattered by rough handling, and calculation, tiny steps forward - but when that final step is made the reply is total, open, simple, honest, true.

is the "i" in this one viggo? or should i not ask?

well, i had one of them in mind at first, but can run it back through my mind with them switching roles (so to speak *g*) and i can picture it that way as well, so i'd probably say 'not necessarily'. :-)

I love the way this builds, how evocative the touching is, the tug of drawing back and being pulled forward. Nice!!!

Quite, quite lovely. I love the caution in this piece, and I love "fearing your fear." What a great turn of phrase!
